The Bakersfield Californian 4 March 1944, page 2 Pioneer of Kern Dies at Tehachapi Tehachapi Rites Scheduled for Lucinda Caroline Brite Lucinda Caroline Brite, 83, resident of Tehachapi and Brite's Valley since 1870, died yesterday at her home, 203 South Curry street in Tehachapi. Final rites for Mrs. Brite will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Community Congregational Church with the Reverend Isaac Flemming officiating. Interment will be in Tehachapi Cemetery. Payne & Son Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Mrs. Brite was born in El Monte in 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Wiggins, moving to the old town of Tehacahpi with her family in 1870. In 1877 she married James M. Brite, a member of the first family to settle in the Tehachapi district known as Brite's Valley. Her husband died in 1927. Mrs. Brite is survived by a brother F.M. Wiggins of Arroyo Grande; a sister, Mrs. C.N. Higdon of Mountain View; a daughter, Mrs. Olive Kimberly of Long Beach; four sons, Walter L. and Jesse D. Brite of Porterville and Frank M. and Clyde Brite of Tehachapi; seven grandchildren.
