Joe Thomas Filer LAMARQUE – Mr. Joe Thomas Filer passed from this life Thursday, November 21, 2013, in Texas City. Born December 17, 1929 in Santa Fe, Mr. Filer had been a lifelong resident of Santa Fe. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force before becoming an operator with Monsanto/Sterling. Joe attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church was a member of the American Legion in Texas City, the VFW Post 5400 in Santa Fe and enjoyed dancing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Henry Filer, Sr. and Theresa Grace (Barak) Filer; brothers, Theodore Henry Filer, Jr., Robert Wayne Filer, James R. “Jimmy” Filer; sisters, Juanita Quinn and Theresa Lacina. Survivors include his wife Arthurine Cecile Shaw Filer; sons, Marty Shaw and wife, Pat of Webster, Waymond Shaw of LaMarque, Gary Shaw and wife, Julie of Santa Fe, Chad Filer, Ricky Filer; daughters, Donna Gail Theiler of LaMarque, Annie Jones of Santa Fe; brothers, Melvin Filer and wife, Dorothy of Crosby, Al Filer and wife, Cleo of LaMarque; sister, Willie Mae Maniscalco of Santa Fe; niece, Grace Filer; grandchildren, Page Shaw, Krystal Filer and Tilly. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Reverend John Kappe officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Shaw, Marty Shaw and Waymond Shaw.
