Bio

Son of Charity Sessums and Jesse Courtney. Jacob grew up along the Sabine River. He worked on the Shed cattle ranch in Shelby county where he met Sarah Jane Shedd. The two wed and moved to Titus. Sarah died leaving him with several young children. He moved back to Shelby and married again. He spent his later years with his son, Jesse. He raised his grandchildren, Claude, Vera, Bernice and Ollie Fowler. After his death, the children were sent to other relatives. Ollie lived with the Belcher family, in-laws of her uncle John Charles Courtney. Jacob Courtney was a Texas Frontier Ranger in Titus County, with the troop "White Oak Spartans" along with two of his brothers-in-law. Children: 1. John Charles 1858-1928 (M: Nancy Sessums) 2.
