Bio

Sarah Jane was born in Carroll County, Georgia to James Austin and Jenny Shed. She arrived in Texas as a young pioneer girl of 12. Her family had a cattle ranch first, in Shelby and then in Titus. As a child she helped herd the sheep and grow vegetables. She married Jacob Courtney in Shelby, a young man living north of her family cattle ranch with his widowed mother. Jacob and Sarah worked on the cattle ranch in Titus until war took its toll on the family. Her widowed mother left Titus for central Texas. Sarah and Jacob remained in Titus until Sarah's untimely death. Widowed with small children, Jacob returned to Shelby and eventually remarried. Bio by g-g-nephew, M. Walker
