Obituary posted in Amarillo Globe-News on December 23, 1943 Clyde Ernest Gaines, 50 year old Amarillo service station operator, died suddenly at his home 3508 Fillmore Street at 9:30 o'clock this morning. He had been a resident of Amarillo 20 years. Returning home from a hunting trip, he retired last night in good health only tired from his trip. He awoke this morning violently. Mrs. Gaines telephoned a doctor and called Boxwell Brothers ambulance. Mr. Gaines died before either arrived. The body will lie in state at the Boxwell Mortuary until 11 o'clock tomorrow morning when it will then be taken to Matador for services tomorrow afternoon in the Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Matador cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ann Gaines; his mother Mrs. Pearl Gaines, Lubbock; two brothers, Joseph Gaines, Amarillo & C.T. Gaines, Portales, NM; five sisters, Mrs. Morris Patton, Plainview; and Misses Virginia, Nannie Mae, Velma and Monda, all of Lubbock. Pallbearers will be Henry Pipkin, Warren Crummons, Homer Jenkins, Emmitt Jenkins and Phillip Phipps.
