Bio

Angus McMillan Crowder, 79, fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. "Mac to his friends and Angus to his acquaintances" as he so often said, went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 28, 2014, at Hendricks Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 North 12th Street, with Reverend Amy Wilson Feltz officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home with Masonic rites and Military honors. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday at Abilene Funeral home. Mr. Crowder was born February 21, 1935 in Cleburne, Tx to Murray William Crowder and Sallie Tom (Drake) Crowder. Mac grew up in Joshua, Texas where he met the love of his life, Sara in the second grade. Leaving home at 15 years of age, Mac hitch-hiked to California and lived there for several years. Returning home to Joshua in 1954 he joined the U.S. Air Force and married Sara on April 1, 1956, Easter Sunday. Mac served his country for 9 ½ years during the Koran and Cold War. He was station in Texas, Mississippi, Alaska, and Florida as a Radar Operator. He had many Air Craft saves one of which was a B-47 at Dyess AFB. After leaving the Air Force and retiring from the Army Reserves, he worked at several jobs, was appointed Justice of the Peace, Deputy Sheriff and Inspector with the Texas Liquor Control Board. He attended Hardin-Simmons University and Texas Christian University studying law enforcement. Upon leaving TLCB he decided to stay in law enforcement. First becoming a private detective and then in the bail bond business. "Mac" was at one time the owner of Abilene Yellow Cab and having the limo from the movie “The Toy”. He started American Bail Bond in April of 1980. He was a member of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas and Abilene Bail bond board. "Mac" was proud of being a Member of the Masonic lodge having first joined Parker 142, Parker, FL over 50 years ago. Mac worked hard for the lodge and its charities. At the time of his death he was an Endowed Member of the Grand Lodge of Texas and the Order of the Easter Star. He was a: Dual Member of Fisher Lodge #709, Tranquility Lodge #2000, Roby Chapter #308 R.A.M, Big Country # 310, Roby Council #316 R & SM, York Rite College- Heart of Texas, Red Cross of Constantine-Llano Estacado Conclave, Stamford Commandery #75, Sweetwater Commandery #89, Sovereign Order of Knights Preceptor, Endowed & Charter Member Lubbock Scottish Rite, Big Country and Tri County Scottish Rite, Allied Masonic Degree, Knight Mason and Queen Esther #833 OES, Founder Lion Club, the VFW and the American Legion. He received numerous awards for his service including the Royal Order of Scotland Degree, Order of the Purple Cross and became 33° degree Mason. In addition, he worked with the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls receiving a Grand Cross of Color for his service. "Mac" enjoyed traveling in his travel trailer, fishing, and enjoying time with his family. Papa or Grandpa as his grandchildren lovingly referred to him was always ready to lend a hand to help them and loved them with all his heart. He was raised a Methodist and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. "Mac" was preceded in death by his parents, two half-brothers; Murray William Crowder, Jr and Elmer Coffield Crowder and a half-sister, Marjorie Crowder Bransom. Mr. Crowder is survived by his loving wife and daughters Nona Ann Flanders and Tina Beth O’Shields (Richard);grandchildren, Joseph Daniel Grimes (Sarah), Pamela Ann Grimes, Keith Ross O’Shields, Katy Diane O’Shields, and Grace Flanders; great grandchildren Dylan James Craig and Joselyn Danielle Grimes; brother Tom Drake Crowder (Setsuko); sister Sallie Nan Platt and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. The family wants to extend special thanks to Dr. Alan Schultz, Hendrick Hospice nurses and all his friends for their support.
