He was the son of Walter Bromley Moon and Margarette Isabel "Maggie" Cagle. He was the husband of Opal Gilchrist and father of Shirley Irene and Hiram Douglas. He was the husband of Frances Elizabeth Rout and the father of Kay Frances and Phillip Murray Moon. He was a national organizer for the United Auto Workers Union and made many public appearances with several Presidents of the United States. An article appeared in the Brownsville Herald,on Sunday, August 30 1964, which states that Hiram Moon, head of the United Auto Workers' powerful Dallas local, and a stubbornly independent man, strongly objected to a proposal to increase dues spending by the state labor body. He wanted to repeal a five cent "temporary tax" passed by the 1963 convention and cut the state organization's share back from 18 to 13 cents per man monthly. (The proposal had been for an increase from 18 to 25 cents) His death certificates #40357 states that he died of a heart attack at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
