Born April 19, 1845 and baptized (as Johann Baptist Luette) on April 21 at St. Theresia Catholic Church, Hallbergmoos, Bavaria, Germany. The birth date and place contradict his obituary. ''''''''''''''''''''''''''' Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), March 24, 1938, p. 1, col. 2 DEATH OF JOHN LITTY DUE TO HIS ADVANCED AGE Funeral Services Monday Morning at St. Mary's Church. John Litty, long-time resident of Butler county and David City, an invalid for the past few years, died at his home in North David City at 4:30 o'clock, Friday morning, March 18, his death due to his advanced age of nearly 93 years. He was born April 21, 1845, at Baden, Germany, a son of Magnus and Anna (Deckart) Litty, coming to America with his parents as an infant. His early years were spent in Johnson county, Iowa, and in 1868 he helped build the Union Pacific railroad between Cheyenne, Wyo., and Ogden, Utah. He went from Iowa in a covered wagon to Richardson county, Nebraska, in 1870, and engaged in farming. He was united in marriage to Rosalia Ege at Rulo on November 28, 1871. Six children, three sons and three daughters, were born to them, of whom one son, Fred, and an infant daughter have passed on. Mr. Litty and family moved to Butler county in 1885, residing on a farm until 1902, when they moved to David City, where Mrs. Litty passed away July 27, 1931. Surviving Mr. Litty are two sons and two daughters, Joe Litty of Burlington, Colo., Miss Anna Litty of Omaha and Frank and Miss Mary Litty of David City all of whom were present at the funeral, nine grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Florence Zahm of Spalding. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning, with requiem high mass by Rev. William Murphy. Singing was by St. Mary's junior choir. Four grandsons of Mr. Litty, Lawrence, Andrew, Leo and Bernard Litty, and two nephews, Leo Graf and Theodore Knott, were pallbearers. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, David City. Among those coming from elsewhere to attend the funeral were Mrs. Florence Zahm, Carl Zahm, Thomas O'Connell, Mrs. August Fritz and Mrs. Frank Pritchard of Spalding, Mrs. John English of Humphrey, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Litty of Brainard, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Richter and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Rutten of Kearney and John and Amy Gibb and Mrs. Ida Ritchie of Ulysses. _____ Card of Thanks - We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our kind friends and relatives for their expressions of sympathy at time of the death of our beloved father.
