Marjorie Sawyer, 84, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014, in Beaumont, Texas. Marjorie was born in Beaumont, to Marguerite Roberts and Robert F. Roberts, on July 30, 1930. As a student, Marjorie excelled in music. After her graduation from South Park High School, she attended Baylor University. While at Baylor, she met Joseph Ray Sawyer, whom she married. After receiving her Bachelor of Music Education from Baylor in 1951, Marjorie became the mainstay of the orchestra program in the Waco Independent School District. She also conducted the Waco All-City Orchestra. After she and her family moved to College Station in 1967, she continued to teach music in the Bryan Independent School District. In 1977, Marjorie returned to Beaumont where she was a public school teacher until her retirement in 1988. A lifelong Baptist, Marjorie was an active member of First Baptist Church, Beaumont. She was also a member of the Baylor Alumni Association and an avid fan of Baylor University athletics. Marjorie is survived by her son, Chris Sawyer and his wife, Susan; one grandson; one granddaughter; one great granddaughter; one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved sister, Audrey Jane Wheeler of Beaumont. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, Texas Broussard's Mortuary, Beaumont, Texas
