Son of Lewis Norton Amsberry of West Virginia and Jane Ann Coffman of Mason County, West Virginia. Husband of Malissa Ann Chandler of Spring Hill, Warren County, Iowa; married on 19 January 1878 in Warren County, Iowa. "William Zachariah Amsberry was born September 22, 1856 at Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa and passed away at Gordon, Nebraska on December 28, 1948 at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 6 days. On January 19, 1878, he was married to Malissa Ann Chandler. To this union, two children were born: Alma Blanche and Fannie Ethel. He became a member of the Baptist Church near Algernon and remained a faithful member until his death. He was a charter member of the Baptist Church at Mason City. Preceding him in passing were his wife, one infant daughter, six brothers and sisters - Florentine, Adaline, Green, Norton, Lyman and Louis; two infant brothers, and one grandchild, Myrtle Ladely. It was in the late 1870's that Mr. Amsberry and his wife came to Nebraska in a covered wagon with a mule team and moved onto a homestead in the vicinity of Algernon, and his early migration marks his family as true early Nebraska pioneers. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alma Cooper of Silverton, Oregon and Mrs. Fannie Rawles of Merriman, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Anola Zimmerman of Ansley; one brother, Charlie Amsberry of Broken Bow; four grandchildren, Mrs. Vedah Leach of Merriman, Mrs. Lola Whitcomb of Gordon, Mr. Ivor Rawles of Recluse, Wyoming, Mr. Gordon Rawles of Merriman, Nebraska; four great-grandchildren, Edward and Virgil Leach, and Harold and Vedah Pearl Whitcomb. Grim with Mrs. Mattley at the piano. Pallbearers were Floyd Junk, Rollie Amsberry, Ray Zimmerman, Frank Amsberry of Broken Bow, Robert Miche and Vern Amsberry.
