Daughter of Zachariah Coffman and Sally Hill. "One of the pioneer women of this part of Custer County, Mrs. Jane Amsberry, passed to her final reward at the home of her son, Lyman Amsberry, south of Berwyn on Sunday, March 2, 1913, aged 84 years. Jane Coffman was born in Mason County, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1829. She was married to Norton Amsberry in 1848 and to this union were born twelve children, of whom W.Z. Amsberry of Mason City, Nort Amsberry, Mrs. H.E. Zimmerman of Ansley, Mrs. Florentine Mossman of Kansas and Charles and Lyman Amsberry of Berwyn still survive. The husband died in 1876. The family moved to Custer County in 1879, settling this locality. In her earlier years, Mother Amsberry was very active in church affairs and almost a life-long member of the Baptist Church. It was her privilege to become a charter member of three different church organizations of that denomination, one in Coal Ridge, Iowa, one in Mason City, the other in Ansley. Besides the sons and daughters named, the deceased leaves a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many other relatives in this county to mourn her death. The funeral was held at the Baptist Church in Ansley Monday afternoon, services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Brown, the pastor, and interment was had in the Ansley Cemetery."
