Bio

Fort Bend Herald, March 25, 2009: Leroy A. Seiler was born on November 23, 1919 near Fairchilds, Texas to Albert Seiler and Julia Schuelke Seiler. He passed away on March 24, 2009 at the age of 89. He attended school in Needville, Texas at the Seiler School, named for his grandfather, Adolph Seiler. In 1938 he went to the CCC's in New Mexico. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1946. Entering the Army as a private, he quickly rose to the rank of Captain and Company Commander. He was stationed in Japan for six months. He received many commendations including one from the President of the United States, Harry S. Truman for excellent performance in his duties. In January 1946, he met his son, Larry, age 15 months, for the first time. He worked for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas for 30 years until he retired in 1976. He and his wife, Mildred, then moved to Colorado for a few years before returning to Texas and settling near Blanco, Texas. Leroy loved traveling with his family to 3 countries and all 50 states. He was a den dad for 6 years, an assistant Boy Scout leader for 5 years, and a member of the American Legion in Lake Jackson, Texas. For 10 years, he helped build the Gem of the Hills Community Center in Blanco, Texas. He was preceded in death by his son, Leslie Eugene Seiler; his parents; and his brother, Wilburn Seiler of Rosenberg. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Palat Seiler, the love of his life for sixty-six years; his brother, Floyd Seiler and wife, Martha Nell of Pearland; his son, Larry Seiler and wife, Terri, of Austin; three grandchildren, Leslie Carl Seiler and wife, Kelly, of Denton, Kaylene Thomas and husband, Robert, of Kingwood, and Cynthia Swendner and husband, Marc, of Austin; and seven great-grandchildren, Erin, Coleen, and Delaney Thomas of Kingwood, Aubrey Peters and Julia Seiler of Denton, and Rowan and Caelyn Swendner of Austin; along with close family friend, Monica Irene Davis of Austin. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, March 26, 2009, in the Stateroom of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2009, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg, Texas.
