Merl Roach, 53 years of age, a native of Sargent, Nebraska was found dead at his farm home two or three miles west of town on Saturday afternoon by his neighbor Reed Pullium. Time of death was fixed as Thursday morning February 2. He had been ailing with a heart condition for several years. Mr. Roach was born January 23, 1914 on a farm west of Sargent, Nebraska one of twin boys born to Clyde Roach and Albena Kriegel. He never married and since his father died in 1947 he had farmed the home place. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Glen. He is survived by three brothers, his twin brother Milo Roach of Scottsbluff, Wayne Roach of Lincoln and Archie Roach of Marsing, Idaho, One sister Mary, Mrs. Woodward F. Packard of Burwell and 21 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at First Methodist Church in Sargent with Rev. Robert Frescohn pastor officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Grace Kidder and Mrs. Bert Amos, vocalist accompanied by Miss Joan Whaly organist. Pallbearers were Lee Wells, Reed Pulliam, Lee Edelman, Boyd Granger, Dave Vincent and Carl Vincent. Interment was made at Mt Hope Cem, Sargent, Nebraska with the Rhoad Funeral home of Sargent in charge of arrangements. A later correction ran in the Sargent Newspaper stating the vocalist at the funeral for Mr. Roach was Bob Brown and not the two ladies noted.
