Raymond J. Coufal, 84, of Sedalia, died Monday, February 24, 2014, surrounded by his family at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born February 16, 1930, in Brainard, Nebraska, son of the late Edward R. and Rose (Sypal) Coufal. On May 23, 1956, at Sacred Heart Church, Sedalia, he married Lorene Klein, who survives of the home. Raymond served his country honorably in the US Army from 1947-1950 attaining rank of corporal. He sold insurance for Western-Southern and was a route salesman for Kitty Clover prior to becoming an over the road truck driver. He retired from Tracker Marine in 1995. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed taking care of rental properties and he loved to drive. Raymond was a good-hearted and generous man. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Carolyn M. Coufal, of Lee's Summit, Julie Childers, and her husband, Russell, and Gregory R. Coufal, and his fiancé, Lisa Whittington, all of Sedalia, a sister, Mary Rhoades, of Amelia, Virginia, two grandchildren, Devin Childers and Brianna Childers, both of Sedalia and a niece Rosemary Mastracco, of Amelia, Virginia. Visitation will be 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm, Friday, February 28, 2014, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 6:45 pm, followed by a memorial service at 7 pm with Father Mark Miller officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Childers, Devin Childers, Don Ditzfeld, Tom Horn, Dan Burgenger and Charles Berry. Military honors will be conducted following the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
