GRAND ISLAND - Elsie V Schamp, 78 of Ord died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at St Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 2 pm Thursday at United Methodist Church in Burwell with the Rev Murry Johnston officiating. Burial will be at Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorial are suggested to the family. She was born May 4, 1922, in Idalia, Colo., to Henry and Matilda (Weigel) Hoskins. On Nov 4, 1937, she married Joseph Schamp in Bartlett. They farmed in the Spalding, Burwell and Ord areas, and she was a longtime employee of Valley County Hospital in Ord and of Mount Carmel Home in Kearney. Her husband died on Sep 20, 1993. Survivors include her sons, David of Dover, Del., and Benny of Ord; daughters, Irene of Elyria and Suzzane of Fremont; sister, Sara Riebschlager of Lexington; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two grandsons.
