Obituary: Calvin Johnson was born in Jackson county, Tenn. Sept. 29, 1832. His father moved from Tennessee to Kentucky when he was about 7 yrs of age, lived there a few years and from Kentucky he moved to Putnam county, Missouri. He was married to Miss Margaret Jane Dye of Monroe county, Missouri, March 1, 1855. He enlisted in the Home Guard service of Putnam co Missouri in the year of 1861, served about 6 months and enlisted and served in the state militia about 6 months. He then enlisted in the U.S. Federal service and served as 1st Lt in Co D, 42nd reg. to the close of the war. He moved from Putnam co Mo. to Collin co Texas in 1872. Lived there 4 yrs and then moved to San Saba county. He joined the Missionary Baptist Church in 1866, remained a member until 1878 and united with the Christian Church and remained a member of that church until his death July 29, 1910. He died at Terrell, Tex. at the N.T. hospital July 29, 1910 at 7:15 a.m. He leaves behind a wife and 9 living children. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.R. Lane at the Wallace Creek Cemetery, July 30, 1910. All the children attended the funeral. The total number of relatives present being 55 persons. Calvin Johnson was a good citizen, an honest industrious man, a considerate husband and father, an accommodating neighbor and a christian gentleman in every sense of the word.
