Bio

Son of Matts Olson and Carrie Mattson and husband of Hilda Lundberg. ----- Eric Olson, 72, who served as treasurer of School District 84 at Uehling for many years, died unexpectedly at his home in Uehling Thursday evening. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Congregational church in Uehling. Rev. Arthur Swanson officiated, and burial was in the Baptist cemetery. The Wollmer and Warne funeral home was in charge. Mrs. Ivan Wedergren presided at the piano, and accompanied Mrs. Marguerite Buck and Miss Georgia Rae Wedergren who sang "In the Sweet By an By" and "Good Night and Good Morning". The profuse floral offerings and the large concourse of relatives and friends bore testimony to the esteem in which Mr. Olson was held. The pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased, Leslie Jacobs, Clyde, Theodore and Raymond Olson, and Jack and Donald Carson. Mr. Olson was born Dec. 13, 1873, at Swaburg. He married the former Hilda Lundberg March 1, 1903, at Fremont and the couple lived on a farm north of Uehling. Mr. Olson retired from farming and they moved to Uehling in February 1942. He had been in failing health for the past several years and last February in an effort to aid his condition, he submitted to an operation for the amputation of his right leg. Rallying, he had been able to get about in a wheelchair and was happy to be able to do tasks around the home. The final summons came as he sat working in his chair in his yard. During his many years as a resident in Swaburg, Mr. Olson identified himself as a kind neighbor and a good citizen. He took an active interest in the affairs of the community and for many years served as treasurer of the Logan View School in Swaburg. He is survived by his widow; a son, Howard; a daughter, Mrs. Harry Olson; a granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. Christina Erickson, of Uehling, Mrs. A. L. Anderson of Iowa, and Mrs. John Carson of Lyons, and two brothers, Alfred of Craig and William of Fremont. A daughter, Evelyn, died in 1924. Source: The Hooper Sentinel, October 10, 1946
