Hess, 3910 Rochester Road, died Wednesday at his home. He apparently had a heart attack. Mr. Hess owned and operated Hess Jewelry in North Topeka from 1949 to 1973 and since had been employed by Town and Country Realtors. He was born at Ulysses, Neb., and lived in Scottsbluff, Neb. before he moved to Topeka in 1948. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Topeka and the Mother Church at Boston, Mass. He also was a member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM, Scottish Rite bodies, and Helena Chapter No. 210, Order of Eastern Star. Mr. Hess was a past president of the North Topeka Merchants Association and formerly was a member of the Kansas Retail Jewelers Association. He was a member of North Topeka Kiwanis Club. He was married to Gladys Brooks Dec. 26, 1948, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Richard Hess, Topeka; his mother, Mrs. Eva Hess, Prescott, Ariz.; a brother, Bernard Hess, Scottsbluff, Neb.; and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Richards, Prescott, Ariz., and Mrs. Lois Glenn, Torrington, Wyo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Science Reading Room, 603 Kansas, 66603.
