Bio

Ima Beatrice Bekkelund, 92, of Woodway, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014, in Waco. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, at Canaan Baptist Church in Crawford with the Rev. Steven Darst, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Canaan Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor. Ima was born in Valley Mills, Texas, to the late Alfred and Anna (Sandhoff) Hoppe. She married Gordon Bekkelund on November 26, 1948, at the Canaan Baptist Church parsonage. Ima loved to cook, garden and travel. After retiring from Owens-Illinois Glass plant, she babysat many of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews who lovingly call her "Nanny." Ima was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and loved to sing hymns. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gordon, on March 24, 2002. Survivors include her daughters, Gwyn Sharp, of Eddy, and Debbi Brown and her husband, Bob, of Axtell; grandchildren, Kelly Moss and her husband, David, Randi Dutschmann and her husband, Greg, Zac Sharp, and Jeff Brown and his wife, Robin; great-grandchildren, Avery Moss, Shelbi and Rylie Dutschmann, and Bridget Brown; brothers, Ray Hoppe and his wife, Nancy, of Valley Mills, and Vernon Hoppe and his wife, Nelda, of Woodway; sisters, Edna Gauer, of Waco, and Ann Blum and her husband, Erwin, of Crawford; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
