Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Priem officiating. Mark Hierholzer was the organist. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation was held Monday evening, Oct. 6. Usener was born Sept. 23, 1968, in Fredericksburg, the son of Atley Otto Usener and Doris Ann Jalujka Usener and was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran. He was employed by Quality Inn. Usener was active in Boy Scouting and became an Eagle Scout on Jan. 11, 1986, and was named to the Order of the Arrow on May 2, 1994. In 1997, he received an associate of applied science degree in computer programming from San Antonio College, graduated from the Fredericksburg Citizen Police Academy in May, 2000, and was awarded a black belt in karate in 2006. In addition to his parents, Usener is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Joy Lynn and Jim Clark of Las Vegas, NV.
