Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Monday, November 17, 1986 Michael F. Koziol, 65, of 2023 W. 12th, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 17, apparently of a heart attack. Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald O'Brien will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Mr. Koziol was born Feb. 8, 1921, at Tarnov, the son of Joseph and Josephine Torczon Koziol. His mother died when he was 3, and he and his father moved to St. Edward. His father died when he was 8, and he moved with his stepmother to Grand Island. When he was 12, he moved to Bradford, N.Y. He was a 1940 graduate of Campbell, N.Y., High School. He worked in New York until entering the U.S. Coast Guard in June 1942, serving until December 1945. He later moved to Omaha and then attended plumbing school in Kansas City. He married Marianna Sock on Oct. 11, 1954, at Silver Creek. They lived in Grand Island, and worked at the ordinance plant before going to work for his brother in the upholstery business. He bought the firm after his brother died in 1954. He retired in 1984 and turned the business over to his sons. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament parish, the Knights of Columbus, the Eucharistic Ministers and sang in the parish choir. he also had been an officer on the parish council and was active in the Central Catholic Boosters Club and its fine arts department. Mr. Koziol was also a CCD instructor for the parish. He was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 378. Survivors include his wife; seven children, Mrs. Sam (Geraldine) Zaruba, Anthony, Timothy, Thomas, Christine, Michalene and Theodore, all of Grand Island and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and a sister.
