Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Monday, September 27, 1954 Ray A. Kozal, 44, the proprietor of the Kozal Company and a veteran of World War II, died Sunday morning in a local hospital. He had been in ill health for the last few years and critically ill for three weeks. The family home is at 821 North Washington. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Harvey Clark, pastor of St. Paul's English Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial is to be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Kozal was born Nov. 27, 1909, at Tarnov, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Koziol. When he was a small child, the family moved to St. Edward where he received his schooling. He began to farm near St. Edward and two years later he entered the construction field and was employed at various locations in Nebraska. He came to Grand Island in 1932. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to his home here and founded the Kozal Company. He was a member of St. Paul's English Lutheran Church. He was active in veterans' circles and was a member of Hall County Post 1347 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of Grand Island Post 53 of the ?American Legion. He was a *past commander of the VFW post. He was affiliated with the Liederkranz Society and Lodge 604 of the Elks. He and Miss Carolyn Stromer were married here Nov. 6, 1937, and had made their only home here. He is survived by his wife and five brothers, Joseph and Clifford Kozal, both of Genoa, Michael and Andrew Kozal, both of Grand Island, and Gerhardt Kozal of Platte Center.
