Obituary from Wichita Eagle, Saturday, December 7, 1974: John S. Smith, 86, of 1309 S. Everett, retired contractor, services at 2 p.m. Monday in Culbertson Mortuary. He died Thursday. Survivors include four sons, Lloyd , Ponca City, Okla., Harold R. , Stanton, Calif., and Edward and Johnny , both of Wichita; two daughters, Mrs. Viola Gooch and Mrs. Mildred Grover , and a sister, Mrs. Addie Watson, all of Wichita, and two half sisters, Mrs. Lola Brewer and Mrs. Francis Harrington, both of Long Beach, Calif.
