The following article appeared in Lufkin Daily News, Nov. 5, 1923.. CULVER CHESNUTT CLAIMED BY DEATH "Former Lufkin Citizen Dies of Heart Failure at Pt. Arthur on Saturday" William Culver Chesnutt, former Lufkin citizen, 40 yrs, 8 months, died of heart failure at Pt. Arthur, his home, on Saturday and was buried at Glendale Cemetery here this afternoon. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. at the Methodist church, of which denomination deceased was a member. Dr. E. W. Solomon, local pastor, officiated. The services at the cemetery were in charge of Lufkin Lodge No. 669, AF&AM. Deceased was a Royal Arch Mason. News of the death of Mr. Chesnutt, who was well and favorably known as a former citizen of Lufkin, was received with a shock here. He was born at Homer, February 7, 1883, and moved with the family to Lufkin when quite young. It was in Lufkin that Mr. Chesnutt learned the drug business and he followed this line of work to his death, being a prominent druggist of the city of Port Arthur. He received his elementary schooling in the local schools. He was a member of the one-time Hoo-Hoo Band that toured several of the larger cities of the United States. The deceased is survived by a widow and two daughters, one 15 and the other 2 years of age, as well as a father, William Chesnutt, recently of this city but now of California, three brothers, Cooper ...
