Carrie E. Hasty, 94, of Elwood, Nebraska, died Sunday, September 22, 2002 at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska. She was born June 16, 1908 at Overton, Nebraska to Nick Thomas and Elizabeth M. (Wengler) Thinnes. Carrie grew up in the Overton area where she graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1926. Following graduation, Carrie worked outside the home helping area mothers deliver their babies, helped area families with housekeeping and for a couple of years moved to Lincoln with her sister as a live-in housekeeper. She was married to Carse O. Hasty on April 6, 1937 at Elm Creek, Nebraska. The couple made their home at Lexington where they were involved in farming. It was during this time that Carrie also helped Lexington women with their housekeeping, ironing and sharing the fruits of her labor from her bountiful garden. Carse and Carrie had no children of their own, but were "second parents" to many of their nieces and nephews. The nieces and nephews have very fond memories of the time spent with Carse and Carrie on the farm. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church as well as the Altar Society. Survivors include one brother, LaVerne Thinnes of San Diego, California; four sisters, Frances and Chester Adams of Lexington, Nebraska, Elizabeth Earl of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Josephine McDonald of Kearney, Nebraska, Eileen Lauby of Lexington, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carse on February 1, 1990, four brothers, Nickie, Matthew, William and Ervin and five sisters, Ann Gruntorad, Susie Gruntorad, Mary Brestel, Kathryn Walker and Leona Saulsbury.
