Ottilie "Tillie" Bertha Schneider Kurio passed away on January 8, 2020, just short of her 93rd birthday. Tillie was born on February 4, 1927, to Philip C. Schneider and Esther Marie Hanusch Schneider in Walburg, Texas. She married Ben "Sonny" William Kurio on September 12, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Walburg. They remained married for 40 years until Ben's death in 1988. Ben and Tillie had three children, Gary Kurio, Shirley Merkord, and David Kurio. Tillie devoted her life to raising her three children. Loving and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren remained a priority throughout her life. Tillie was an excellent homemaker; known for her homemade coffee cake, fried chicken, and canned pickles. As a young woman she lived and worked at the Scottish Rite dormitory in Austin while she also took classes at the local community college. In their free time, Tillie and her friends enjoyed walking to Mt. Bonnell or spending the day at Barton Springs Pool. She also worked at the family owned business, the Henry Doering Company. Then she served as the Postmaster of Walburg for the majority of her working career where she formed many lasting friendships and always had plenty of candy for the neighborhood kids. Tillie was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. At Zion, she held various positions and participated in many church and community activities. She was proud to be one of the last remaining members who helped with the first annual Zion Wurstbraten in 1971. Tillie was the great granddaughter of Andreas Schneider a founding member of Zion Lutheran Church. Tillie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Merlen Schneider, and Lillie Dean; brothers, Emil Schneider, Gus Schneider, Lambert Schneider, Arvilee Schneider; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Schneider, and Betty Schneider. She is survived by her children, Gary B. Kurio, David W. Kurio, Shirley Merkord and husband Randy; brother Horace Schneider and wife Sandra;grandchildren, Brent Kurio, Spencer Merkord and wife Natalie, and Jacob Merkord; great grandchildren, Hudson, John, and Nathan Merkord; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. Honoring Tillie serving as Pallbearers will be: Brent Kurio, Spencer Merkord, Jacob Merkord, Phil Schneider, Andrew Schneider, Stephen Schneider, Terry Schneider, and Jeff Schneider. In addition, the Honorary Pallbearers: Kenneth Richter, Kathleen Jackson, Sylvia Hebert, James Draeger, Ronald Draeger, Barbara Ischy, Gerald Kurio, Martha Faske, Sam Kurio, Debbie Renner, Kim Johnston, Elaine Kurio, Jerri Walker, and Chima Ybarra.
