John Wesley Hall, 90, of Shady Grove, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at his home. Born Aug. 2, 1923, in Prairie Grove, Ark., he was the son of John and Edna (Beck) Hall. He grew up in Arkansas. While visiting in Pittsburg County, he met his future bride, Pearl Marie Swift, and they were married on Sept. 9, 1942, in McAlester. He joined the United States Army in 1943 and served during World War II for two years, receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. At that time, he and his wife settled in the Shady Grove area and had lived there ever since. He was an auto mechanic and had worked at Childers Motor Company, Ed Kelley Motor Company and finally at the state prison as the mechanic supervisor. He also enjoyed working hard on the family farm. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Hall, of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharon and John Fine, Wallowa, Ore., Joan G. Godwin, of McAlester, and Sherrie L. and Bill Cathey, of McAlester; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John D. Hall, of the home, and Kenneth H. and Carol Hall, of McAlester; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Joyce Timmerman; a brother, Garland Hall, and three sisters, Nina Burdine, Louise Prim and Imagene Long. Burial will be at Shady Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098 of McAlester. Pallbearers will be Charles Godwin, Jason Godwin, Kenneth Hall, Wesley Hall, Garland Hall and Donnie Long. Honorary pallbearers will be L.D. Pryor, Ike Bandy, Guy Hooser, Wendal Rice, Terry Blassingame and David Fuller.
