Bio

John Kenneth "Ken or Jake" Jakeman 1926 - 2014 Early Life: Ken saw many changes in the world around him since the day he was born June 7, 1926, in a two-room log home in Lyman, Utah, to George Henry and Annie Hendrikje Ackerman Jakeman. As a teenager, he served his country as a Merchant Marine during World War II. Life's Work | Service | Interests: Following the war, Ken returned to Utah where he met and married Duella Opal Stevens Hanks and helped her raise three children of a previous marriage: Gloria Dawn Hanks Galloway, Larry Lincoln Hanks and Gregory Reed Hanks. Besides celebrating 50 years of marriage together, Ken and Duella especially enjoyed serving a mission together to Adam-ondi-Ahman, Missouri. In their assignment to beautify the land, Ken used his heavy equipment skills. All five of Duella's children served missions, also; the Jakemans are known as a missionary family. Ken belonged to the Operating Engineers Union, Local #3. He was proud of the many development projects he worked on that helped the citizens of Utah, such as: freeways, dams, power plants, BYU Science building and other large buildings. As a faithful member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many ward organizations and was a worker in the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple.
