Bio

When Maud Ann Crites was born on July 22, 1888, in Texas, her father, Jonathan, was a 40 year old Nurseryman born in Virginia December 22, 1847, and had married her mother, Lucy Jane Shelton. in 1870. Jonathan and Lucy, Maud's parents, were both born in Virginia and had traveled to Missouri previously, where they gave birth to Maud's older siblings. Maud's mother, Lucy, was 42 years old when Maud was born. Lucy bore 9 children in total and only 7 were living as of the 1900 census when Maud was 11 years old. Maud Ann was a twin/had a twin brother named Claud. When Maud was a young girl she lived in Aurora, Texas, and told her children and grandchildren the story of the alien spacecraft and alien burial that supposedly occurred there (The Aurora, Texas, UFO incident reportedly occurred on April 17, 1897 when, according to locals, a UFO crashed on a farm near Aurora, Texas.[1] The incident (similar to the more famous Roswell UFO incident 50 years later) is claimed to have resulted in a fatality from the crash and the alleged alien body is to have been buried in an unmarked grave at the local cemetery.) Maud was reportedly a flower girl at the alien's funeral. Maud's father, Jonathan, is buried in the Aurora Cemetery where the alien was supposedly interred. "Maude Ann Crites and Andrew Jackson McCurley had a child prior to being married, in 1912, Agnes Odena Crites. Agnes Odena Crites was left with the Crites family and eventually placed in the Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth, Texas. Andrew Jackson McCurley and Maude Ann Crites married in Ardmore, OK, in 1913. They settled in Fort Worth, Texas, and had their next child, Fred Warren McCurley, in 1914." Maud married Andrew Jackson McCurley on November 21, 1913, in Ardmore, Carter, OK; they eventually settled in McCurley Prairie, Texas, a land that Andrew Jackson McCurley's uncle had originally settled as recorded in the Texas state historical records. Andrew Jackson McCurley and Maud Ann Crites McCurley had 14 children together, 4 of whom died in infancy or at birth. The government bought McCurley Prairie and Andrew and Maud moved to Carrrolton in the 1950's. They eventually moved to Lewisville, TX, where they lived on a main street there, near many of their children and grandchildren. Andrew and Maud moved to a Lewisville Nursing Home together after she fell and broke her hip in the 1970s. Andrew died in 1980 at the age of 105, and Maud died on February 1, 1982, in Lewisville, Texas, at the Nursing Home, at the age of 93, and was buried there, next to her husband and near her other relatives and some children and grandchildren in McCurley Cemetery on Grandy's Lane in Lewisville, TX.
