The Belleville Telescope, April 30, 1953 Jerome Houdek, one of 18 children born to John and Anna Houdek, was October 23, 1862 in Doubravčice, Bohemia, Austria and died April 23, 1953 at the home of his granddaughter near Munden at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 11 days. His first six years in America were spent in Iowa. He then resided on the family homestead, two miles south and one mile west of Munden. In 1886 he was married to Marie Dreshner and to this union five daughters were born. His wife preceded him in death in 1935 and two of the couple's daughters, Bessie and Blanche, died in infancy. Ten brothers and seven sisters also preceded him in death. Mr. Houdek was an easy man to meet and he treasured his friendships. His outlook was pleasant and his company was enjoyable. Living as he did across the better part of a century, he gathered many friends, not only among his own generation, but among those much younger. His absence will be felt by the comunity. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Anna Ault of Bell, Cal., Mrs. Mary Trzicky of Munden, and Mrs. Tom Moravek of Washington; and Mrs. Mildred Lesovsky, whom the couple raised as a daughter from the time she was a year old; a sister, Mrs. Libbie Swiercinsky of Belleville; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Services were held April 25 at the First Methodist church in Munden with the Rev. J.H. Vernon officiating. Burial was in Tabor cemetery.
