Dr. Vierdonia Mae Leopold “Dr. V. Mae” Odessa Vierdonia Mae Leopold, 93, Odessa, MO. died December 12, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs, MO. She was a resident of New Haven Nursing Home in Odessa, MO. V. Mae was born October 31, 1912, to Stanley and Bessie Shockey, in Oxford, KS, and grew up in Oxford and Winfield, KS. She was married to Norman B. Leopold in Kirksville, MO on December 21, 1932. She graduated High School in Winfield, KS in 1930. She attended Medical School at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine for two years, and graduated from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1935. She practiced medicine with her husband Dr. Norman Leopold at the Leopold Clinic, 503 N. Sam Houston, in Odessa. They had a family practice here for 45 years and retired in 1980. Dr. V. Mae was a member of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, and the House of Delegates of the Texas Osteopathic Association for 16 years and also the district Osteopathic Assoc. She was one of the founders of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, she served 10 years on the Board of Directors of that college, and received the Founder’s Medal in 1986. Dr. V. Mae and Dr. Norman were honored as Texas Practitioners of the year in 1968. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 1981 and by siblings Hershel, Adron, Savinah and Louise. Survivors include one brother, Winfred Shockey of Winfield, KS, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David Leopold and Judith of Sierra Vista, AZ, daughter and son-in-law, Adair and David Carlyle, of Odessa, MO, daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Sarah Sue West and Fred of Benson, AZ, and 8 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 19800 E. Truman Rd. Independence, MO. or Wycliffe Bible Translators Acc#286005, P.O. Box 268005, Orlando, FL 32862-8200. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
