Wife of Sam
Travelled to Van Alstyne with her family at an early age. Sam and Betty's house was situated in an ideal location. There was plenty of good farmland with pasture on one side, endless acres of timber on the other side and one of the best springs in the whole county. That spring not only had the best water, but it also kept the milk and butter cool all summer long. You could always find arrowheads around that spring. No doubt that the Indians had camped there. Three of their sons (Pike, Doc and Jim) were professional baseball players. Their first child, James H. "Jim" Ross born in 1878 married Evaline Rupe [sic: Williams] . Their second child Doc Ross born in 1880 married Kate Barnes. Their third child Tom Ross born around 1882 married Mattie Mae Rupe. Their fourth child Houston Ross lived for about ten years. Their fifth child D. C. "Pike" Ross born 1885 married Viola McVey and then Ruth Deal. Their sixth child Silas Wesley Ross born August 12, 1887 married Kibby Kirby and then Maggie Stone. Their seventh child Mary Eula Ross married James Albert "Al" Forster. Their eighth child Joe Ross born in 1892 married Al Forster's sister, Emma Catherine Forster. Their ninth child Tina V Ross born in 1894 married Emerson Bruce White. Their tenth child Ola Mae Ross born 1897 married Raymond Andrew Cross. Samuel Ross died at Liberty Grove from a heat stroke on March 19, 1907. He is buried at Cottonwood Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth lived with her older children after that. She died on April 1, 1928.
