Henry Dee Goates, Sr. was the son of James Elbert "Ross" Goates and Arizona Martin. He was born June 5, 1912 in Brownwood, Brown, Texas and died on December 5, 1985 in Galveston, Galveston, Texas. He was a Railroad worker. He was first married to Zula Mae Regan about 1941 in Louisiana. They had three children: Brenda Dee May Goates Goodson, 1942-1974 Henry Dee Goates, Jr., 1943-1982 Albert Lee Goates, 1945-1978 Henry Dee was also married to Thelma Louise Bima. They had no children.
