************************************************************************************* Sarah "Sally" Bryant was born about 1808 in North Carolina. Her actual place of birth, as well as the names of her parents, are currently unknown. Sally is an old time nickname for Sarah. A number of family trees show her name as Mary, Frances, Francis, and Fanny. The US Censuses for 1850, 1860 and 1870, however, all show her name as Sarah or Sally/Sallie . Sally married Garret Neal Bryant (bet 1801/05-abt 1892) about 1825 in North Carolina. Sally and Garrett migrated to Greene Co., Tennessee in the late 1820s and by 1840, had migrated on to Claiborne Co., TN. Sally and Garret appear in the 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 US Censuses living in Claiborne Co., TN. The 1870 census gives their post office as Cumberland Gap, TN. Sally and Garrett were married for at least 45 years and had nine known children. They are listed in Garret's memorial. The 1880 US census shows Sarah's husband, Garret, as 79 years old, divorced and living with two of his daughters, Octavia (25) & Orlena (21). As to Sally's death date all we know is that she died after 1870. It is possible that Sally died in the 1870s, that her husband Garret remarried and by 1880 had divorced. In either case, Sally is thought to have died between 1870-80 in Claiborne Co., TN while in her 60s and to have been buried in the Scott Cemetery (Claiborne Co.) in a grave that is now unmarked. This cemetery, established in 1870, has several unmarked early burials.
