AURORA — Harold Nunnenkamp, 93, of Aurora passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. The Revs. Bob Gannon and Paul Nauman will officiate. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Aurora Cemetery. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of the arrangements. Harold Ludwig Nunnenkamp, the son of William and Elizabeth (Siebert) Nunnenkamp, was born on a farm three miles southeast of Hampton on July 14, 1920, and passed away in Aurora on Jan. 30, 2014, at the age of 93. He grew up south of Aurora on the family farm and lived in the area all his life. He attended District 27 through the eighth grade. Harold served his country in the United States Army during World War II from Dec. 18, 1944, until Nov. 22, 1946. He received his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, and then spent one year in Japan. After his discharge from the Army, he returned home to Nebraska, where he worked for a few months at Swift & Co. in Omaha and then returned to Aurora. Harold was united in marriage to Maria Peters on May 21, 1948, at Henderson. Following their marriage, they farmed southeast of Aurora, and in 1952, they moved to the family farm southwest of Aurora until a tornado destroyed the farm and they moved to a farm place a mile north, where they lived until they built a new home in 1978. Maria passed away on Aug. 8, 1989. Harold was united in marriage to Virginia Virts on Nov. 25, 1990. They moved to Aurora in February 2003. Harold was a member of the Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora and the Gideons International. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, five brothers and two sisters. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia of Aurora; sons, Robert (Sharon) Nunnenkamp and Roger Nunnenkamp, both of Aurora; daughter, Ruth Ann (Robert) Williams of Bismark, N.D.; grandchildren, Robert Nunnenkamp Jr. and special friend Syndie Turner, Holee Nunnenkamp, Amy (Aaron) Leisinger, Daniel Williams, Katie (Sean) Salle and James Williams; great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Cierra Nunnenkamp and William Patrick Leisinger; brother, Fred (Laura) Nunnenkamp; sisters, Bernice Trautman and Wilma (Dean) MacDonald; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Nunnenkamp; brother-in-law, Clyde Mortenson; and many nieces and nephews.
