Geraldine Johnson, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, Nebraska. Geraldine was born December 1, 1930 in Belgrade, Nebraska to Charles A. and Emma Johanna (Hellbusch) Moyer. Geraldine grew up in the Belgrade, Nebraska area and attended her elementary school years there. The family moved to Grand Island, Nebraska. Geraldine graduated from Grand Island (NE.) Senior High in 1949. After high school, she worked for a printing company in Grand Island, Nebraska. Geraldine was united in marriage to Russel D. Johnson on April 22, 1951 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She worked as a waitress at the Saddle Club and at the Grand Island (NE.) Ordinance Plant. The couple lived on a farm near Boelus, Nebraska and then moved to a farm near Dannebrog, Nebraska. Russel farmed and Geraldine worked as a farmer's wife and also raising their children. Russel passed away on September 13, 1996. Geraldine continued to live on the farm. She worked at the Golden Nugget, Boelus, Nebraska. When she had a stroke, Geraldine moved into assisted living in Grand Island, Nebraska. Geraldine was a member of the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Dannebrog, Nebraska. Geraldine had a passion for baking cinnamon rolls and angel food cakes, and cooking. She was a hardworking woman. She and Russel enjoyed dancing to polka music. A bulldog named "Tubby" was her special love. She always enjoyed her family and her grandchildren. Geraldine also enjoyed watching basketball with the Laker's being her favorite team. Geraldine is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Brant & Kim Johnson of Boelus, Nebraska; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, Shelley Johnson and her husband Nick Tabet of Eugene, Oregon and Lorie & Galen Witt of Lincoln and Karla Johnson-Kooi and her husband Keith of Sioux Center, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters & brother-in-law, Irene Kopystynsky of Grand Island, Nebraska and Artherine & Phil Wagner of Council Bluffs, Iowa; very special friend Alan Nielsen of Boelus, Nebraska and her beloved bulldog, "Tubby". Geraldine is preceded in death by: parents; husband, Russel D. Johnson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella Mae & Al Schweiger, Dorothy Walgreen, infant sister, Kathleen and Walter Kopystynsky. Geraldine's wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Dannebrog, Nebraska. The Reverend Sheri Lodel was officiator.
