Bio

Raymond John Zapalac, 85, of Barry, Monday, January 13, 2014, at Trisun Care Center in Corsicana. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Uche Obikwelu as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Raymond was born in West, Texas, to the late Ludvik and Albina (Vanek). After attending Alligator School, Raymond enlisted in the United States Army and upon his discharge he returned home and began a lifelong career at General Motors in Arlington. After retiring, Raymond returned to his love of ranching and farming, settling down in Barry. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Zapalac. Survivors include his sisters, Martha Dowdy, of Irving, and Mary Ann Adams and husband, Jack Jr., of The Colony; brother, Luddie Zapalac, of Garland; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
