Born in the village of Hartikovice, town of Namest, county of Znojmo, Moravia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). Emigrated to the United States in 1891. The passenger list for the ship Dania , which left Hamburg and arrived in New York City on May 15, 1891 includes the following family group: Karl Tranda, age 34 years; Marie, 31; Franz, 9; Karl, 7; and Hubert, 6 months. The passenger list states they were originally from Bohemia, destination Loma (presumably Loma, Nebr.) with the Franz and Anna Dufek family. According to the 1900 census he was a day laborer, born January 1855 in Bohemia, emigrated to the United States in 1890, had been married 20 years, and lived in Brainard, Nebr. with his wife Mary and their three sons. In 1910 he was 53 years old, born Bohemia, worked as a farm laborer, and lived in Union township, Butler County with his wife Mary and three sons. He had recently resided on a farm southeast of Millerton.
