Bertha was the daughter of Harmon McGhee and Bernette Armer She was married to Marshall Franklin Hemby. She was one of 8 children. Her siblings were Lucy McGhee, Lydia McGhee, Eliza McGhee, John Frank McGhee, Ben McGhee, James Wesley McGhee & Jessie McGhee. She had 3 children, Douglas Eugene Hemby, died at age 8, Alvin Franklin Hemby and Betty Joyce Hemby.
