John H. Cumby, Sr., age 80, of Rock Falls died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. John was born March 26, 1933 in Pike County, IL the son of Frank and Rosie (Inman) Cumby. He married Linda Blankenship on October 15, 1988. John worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling at a tractor operator for 32 years, he retired in 1993. He attended Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls. John enjoyed fishing and going to the casino. Survivors include his wife Linda of Rock Falls, four daughters Josephine (Dennis) Gaskill of Tampico, Vickie (Dennis) Huffman of Rock Falls, Tammy (Mark) Naftzger of Rock Falls, and Pamela (Ed) Davis of Tampico, two sons John (Cindy) Cumby, Jr. of Laughlin, NV, and Steven Cumby of Henry, IL, one sister Ethel Howard of Rock Falls, one brother James (Ruth Ann) Cumby of Rock Falls, one son-in-law Mike Thomas of Rock Falls, seven grandchildren Ryan, John III, Rosie, Eddy, Cody, Audrey, George, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter Macie Thomas, a son John Cumby Jr, and three brothers Tom, Bill, and Don. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday, December 12, 2013 at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Funeral service will be at 11 AM Friday, December 13, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Dalmus Meeks officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
