Bio
Miriam Catherine (Tate) Vestal was the fifth child born to George Washington Tate and Nancy (Strain) Tate on June 9, 1823 in Maury County, Tennessee. Her twin sister was stillborn and never named. Catherine married John Thomas Vestal on October 29, 1840 and together they had 14 children. They moved from Tennessee to Jasper County, Missouri and finally settled in Whitewright, Texas. She died on July 14, 1909 and is buried in Lindsey Springs Cemetery. Her grave does not have a marker, but she is buried next to her husband and daughter, Mary Vestal. There are also two small granddaughters buried in the same area of the cemetery. This cemetery is also known as Sears Chapel Cemetery and Doss Cemetery. It is now on private property located on FM 151 in Whitewright. The property owners are cordial about allowing visitors on their property to enter the cemetery. The cemetery is overgrown and in poor condition. Many of the markers have been damaged and some are almost impossible to read. It is fenced but the gate is not locked. The entrance to the property has the owner's business sign on the fence which reads Push Pull Power.
