Bio
John was the second child born to Jay Vestal and Sophia White Vestal on June 18, 1818 in Williamport, Maury County, Tennessee. He married Miriam Catherine Tate on October 29, 1840 in Maury County, Tennessee. Together they had 14 children. They left Tennessee and lived for a period of time in Jasper County, Missouri. They eventually moved to Fannin County, Texas and settled in Whitewright for the remainder of their lives. John died on December 8, 1869 and is buried in Lindsey Springs Cemetery. This cemetery is also known as Sears Chapel Cemetery and Doss Cemetery. It is now on private property located on FM 151 in Whitewright. The property owners are cordial about allowing visitors on their property to enter the cemetery. The cemetery is overgrown and in poor condition. Many of the markers have been damaged and some are almost impossible to read. It is fenced but the gate is not locked. The entrance to the property has the owner's business sign on the fence which reads Push Pull Power.
