Bio

Emigrated to the United States with her parents and siblings on the SS Ohio which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany on April 16, 1872. The passenger list includes the following family, all from Germany: Franz Coufal (age 26), Wenzl (45), Franziska (42), Marianne (21), Antonia (19), Barbara (17), Franz (14), Franziska (7 years, 6 months), Catharina (5), and Anton (11 months). According to the 1900 census she was born June 1865 in Moravia (but was 44 years old placing her birth in 1856), immigrated 1872, and lived alone in Linwood Township, Butler County, Nebr. In 1920 Marie Coufal, age 70 years, born Moravia, was an inmate and ward worker at the Ingleside Hospital for the Insane in Adams County, Nebr. Rev. Father Bauer had charge of the services. Interment was made in St. Anthony's cemetery. Miss Coufal was about 75 years old.
