Services for L. J. Dostal Were Held Here on Saturday Largely attended funeral services, honoring the memory of an esteemed and pioneer resident of the Jackson community, L. J. Dostal, were held Saturday morning, November 20, 1948, from St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson, Minnesota. Leopold Julius Dostal was born in Spillville, Iowa, September 1, 1866, where he grew to manhood and attended parochial school. February 16, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Kloyda and to their union four children were born: Mrs. Joseph Voda (Adeline); Mrs. Wesley Prokes (Lillian); Mrs. William Donwen (Augusta), all of Jackson. A daughter, Regina, passed away in infancy. Leaving Iowa, the Dostal family spent several years in Oklahoma and then moved back to Iowa, where they lived several years, and in 1899 came to Jackson after purchasing a farm in Des Moines township. In 1903 Mrs. Dostal passed away. On July 30, 1907, Mr. Dostal was united in marriage with Mrs Rose (Rosalia Dzimela) Bezdicek, and to this union one son was born, Louis Dostal, who resides on a farm just south of the Jackson city limits. He is also mourned by a step-son, Frank Bezdicek, who occupies the Dostal farm on the paving two miles west of Jackson. Mrs. Dostal passed away June 15, 1944. Mr. Dostal is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Dostal of Manly, Iowa; and Mrs. J. A. Vacek of Jackson; also one brother Frank Dostal of Manly, Iowa, besides many admiring friends. During Mr. Dostal's busy life in Jackson county, he served six years in the office of register of deeds, was secretary and treasurer of the Jackson County Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance Company for forty years and served in other positions of trust, all of which were performed in a high and efficient manner. His genial manners made friends that kept him in high esteem among friends and neighbors. For the past several years Mr. Dostal had resided in his comfortable bungalow on Bailey street, but declining health made it necessary for him to be taken to the Halloran Hospital, where on November 17, 1948, he passed to his last and well won sleep, at whick time he finished the course of a true traveler and gentleman. Recitation of Rosary was held at the Krause Funeral Home at 7:30 Friday evening with funeral services in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. Father F.J. Felten officiating. Burial was made in the family plot in St. Wenselaus Caholic Cemetery. (Now called Good Shepherd Cemetery)
