William "Billy" Eugene Bezdek, born May 10, 1936, departed from this Earth to his heavenly home Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at the age of 77 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. Billy was a native of West, Texas, and reared in Corpus Christi until he moved to Baton Rouge during his early teenage years and played football at Redemptorist High School. Survivors include: his beloved wife and best friend, "his Diskie," Corrinne Womack Bezdek; sons, William "Bil" Eugene Bezdek Jr., Gregory Gerard Bezdek and wife Debra, and John Cyril Bezdek and wife Dori; daughter, Kathleen Terese Bezdek Cook; stepson, Bradley Craig Dickey and wife Sheila; stepdaughter, Constance Babette Dickey Vlahos and husband Thomas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, James Bezdek and wife Barbara, Marvin Bezdek and wife Toni, and Dennis Bezdek and wife Linda; a sister, Janet Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, William and Adele Bezdek; and son, Jeffrey Charles Bezdek. Billy was a retired General Manager of the Construction Aggregate Supply division of Luhr Bros, Inc. of Columbia, Ill. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard. He was a longtime member of St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 2807. He was a former member of the Propeller Club, and past President of the Louisiana Limestone Association. He was an avid fisherman, LSU fan, and enjoyed making Rosaries and giving them to anyone that came into his life. He was a most loving and forgiving person, and had a love for dancing to his native Czech polkas and waltzes. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, Oct. 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 26, with his longtime friend, the Rev. Jeff Bayhi, celebrant, and the Rev. Mike Moroney, concelebrant. Burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway. Pallbearers will be Bil Bezdek, Greg Bezdek, John Bezdek, Bradley Dickey, Jeffrey Cook, and Christopher Vlahos. Honorary pallbearers are longtime friends Willie Frazier, and former Redemptorist High School friends known as "The Group." Billy was a very outgoing person who had many friends and never met a stranger. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Charlie's House, members of South Louisiana Hospice, especially nurse Barry, PCA's and staff at Amber Terrace Memory Lane, and ICU nurses Peggy and Carla at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet.
