Funeral services for Randall "Sonny" Lovil, 89 of Carthage, Texas were held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 7, 2013 in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rick Linebarger officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation was Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Lovil passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 in Carthage, Texas. Elmer Randall "Sonny" Lovil was born January 1, 1924 in Waxahachie, Texas to Walker Cleveland "W.C." and Clara Belle Underwood Lovil. He attended Carthage schools, graduating with the class of 1941 and then served his country through the United States Army during WWII. He married Geneva Howell Alford on July 27, 1967 and together they celebrated over 46 years of marriage. A charter member and deacon of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church since 1956, Sonny loved his church. He was a carpenter by trade, loved raising cattle and was an honorary lifetime member of the International Order of Odd Fellows. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William "Buddy", Herman and Gerald Lovil; and sisters, Juanita Hudson and Velma Duke. Lovil is survived by his loving wife, Geneva Lovil of Carthage; daughters Judy Taylor and husband, Mike, of Pittsburg and Patsy Shirey and husband, Truman, of Carthage; son, Travis Lovil and wife, Vicki, of Carthage; grandchildren, Randy Winchester of Pittsburg, Traci Shirey of Tyler, Leigh Ann Shirey of Carthage, Susanne Shirey of Arlington, Kristi Ebey and husband, Jessie, of Flint and Erik Lovil of Carthage; step-children, Lynda Porter and husband, Pat, of Carthage, Terry Alford and wife, Sandra, of Carthage and Malcolm Alford of Coppell; step-grandchildren, Chris Alford and wife, Segrid, of Carthage, Jay Alford of Carthage and Patrick Porter and wife, Desiree, of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Jim Lovil and wife, Janet, of Carthage and Dan Lovil and wife, Alice, of Carthage; five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers were Craig Gibbs, Paul Ritter, Kie Foley, Kirk Burleson, Cecil Ray Blair and Keith Hennigan. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Soape, Ralph Edge and W.E. Blair, Jr. The family would like to give special thanks to Heartsway Hospice and Carthage Health Care. They request memorials be made to Heartsway Hospice or Mt.
