Bio
Lera M. Sears, age 92 of Rensselaer, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Jasper County Hospital. Lera was born in Somerset, Kentucky on January 5, 1921, the daughter of Add and Rosetta (Alexander) Colyer. She was raised in Kentucky and attended Shopville Public School. On December 28, 1939, in Somerset, she married Jewell P. Sears who passed away October 13, 1997. Lera had been employed at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer where she was the switchboard operator and worked in the printing office. She also had been a nurse's-aide at the George Ade Hospital. She was a member of the Faith Christian Tabernacle. Lera loved gardening and listening to gospel music. Lera was cherished by her family and grandchildren. Surviving are her loving family, son Winston (Doris) Sears, Sr., Rensselaer, daughter's Wilma Jean (Dale) Lehe, Remington, Doretta Alonso, Rensselaer and Debra (Dr. Richard) Bacon, Styx, Texas, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and her brother, Noel (Geneva) Colyer, Zanesville, Ohio. Lera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jewell and two sisters. Dr. Richard Bacon officiating.
