Carolyn Jurik, 99, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013, in Ennis, Texas. Visitation will be frm 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2013, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of the Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2013, in the St. John Catholic Church of Ennis. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. Carolyn was born in Bardwell, Texas, to the late Charles "Charlie" S. and Frances (Haskovec) Nekuza. She grew up in Bardwell and graduated from Bardwell High School in 1930 where she was a star basketball player. She was offered a basketball scholarship to Trinity University. On April 16, 1938, Carolyn married Willie C. Jurik and they made their home in Bardwell until 1981. She worked for Ellen's Dress Shop, H & H Gifts and Hardware, the Wright Shop, and on the family farm until 1981 when she moved to Ennis. Carolyn was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, served as President of the PTA at the Bardwell School. She was president of the Mother's Club for St. John School and was a member of the KJZT #16. Carolyn loved to Polka and was a member of the Polka Club and never missed a Polka Festival. She was big fan of the Mollie B show, and also loved playing dominos with her friends every Friday night. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie C. Jurik on February 23, 1981; brother, E.R. "Nick" Nekuza; and sister, Florence Vitovsky. Survivors include daughters, Joyce Plasek and her husband, Ed, of Ennis, and Nancy Jurik Cavender and her husband, Gray, of Tempe, Arizona; grandchildren, David Plasek and Kelly Falkenbach; great-grandchildren, Kara Estrada, Scott Falkenbach and Kaden Plasek; many other relatives and numerous friends.
