Bio
Lewis F. McWhirter, age 83, of Gallatin, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Mr. McWhirter was retired from General Electric. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, August 30, from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Harold King officiating. Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens with Blake Davis, Richard Key, Justin Phillips, Michael Phillips, Tim Link, Brian Key, Philip Thurman, and Jack Billingsley serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, from 4-8 p.m. and Friday, August 30, from 10 a.m. until time of service. Mr. McWhirter was born April 17, 1930 in Sumner County to the late C.H. McWhirter and Avie Linville McWhirter. He is also preceded in death by his brother, J.D. McWhirter, and his sister, Helen Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Faye Thurman McWhirter of Gallatin, children, Belinda (Tom) Davis of Gallatin, Ronnie (Patty) Holmes of Las Vegas, NV, Sherry (Michael) Phillips of Gallatin, Sheila (Richard) Key of Gallatin, Connie (Tim) Link of Gallatin, Eddie (Mary) Holmes of Gallatin, Sue (Jack) Woodard of Reno, NV, Tony McWhirter, brothers, Edwin (Mildred) McWhirter of Bethpage, Robert McWhirter of Indianapolis, and Melvin (Mary Lou) McWhirter of Indianapolis, eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
