"Charles, after finishing grade school in Memphis, came to Omaha and attended the new North High School. His class was first to graduate from the school (June 10, 1926). He attended Omaha University for one year when he married and moved to Chicago and worked in a drug store with brother Rudy. During the depression he sold cook books called 'Encyclopedia of Cookery.' After that he worked for Brentwood Eggs as manager and Swanson Foods. He finally went into his own business - a grocery store. He remarried later to Minnie Reipe of Arapahoe, Nebraska." Written by his sister Evelyn Rudiger Tomanio Charles grocery store was called "Chubby's Market." It was located near the old Aksarben race track at 6501 Center Street. I remember visiting it as a very little girl with my parents. Charles first wife was, Zelma Marie Miller. They were divorced in 1934, shortly after Zelma abandoned her children and left Charles. Charles and Zelma had two daughters: Betty Marie (b. 22 Apr 1930 in Chicago, Illinois) and Norma Jean (b. 25 Sep 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska.) Betty's name when she died was Betty Perez. She died in 2001 in San Bernadino, California. Charles second marriage was with Minnie Reipe in 1945. I am looking for Norma Jean. I cannot find any record of her in the 1940 census. I think she may have been adopted by another family. If you have any information about Norma Jean, I would like to hear from you.
